Kyoto, Japan

Yokota believes that KIMONOS, especially the antique KIMONOS of the Edo period, are key artifacts of Japanese culture. Since KIMONOS were created from delicate materials, such as silk, their fragile structures can easily be destroyed by moisture, sunlight and changing temperatures. To escape potential damage to these works of art, Yokota developed a very unique KIMONO preservation technique, utilizing glass, which displays them for viewing appreciation. Before Yokota even encapsulates a kimono, he sometimes works on it for more than a year to restore and enhance its condition. Yokota’s fantastically preserved historic kimono exhibit has already toured New York, Bombay, Taiwan, Singapore and Japan with additional worldwide shows already scheduled.
